Asia Pacific Deal Drivers FY2019

Published in association with Mergermarket, this report provides a comprehensive review of 2019 M&A deal flows across Asia Pacific.

M&A deal value across the region in 2019 fell more than 16% year-on-year. However, the annual total deal value still represented a strong return from a deal market that is now around twice as large as it was in 2009.

Highlights:

  • US-China trade frictions have undercut activity across the region.
  • Sizable dips in the TMT and energy, mining and oil & gas sectors were the factors most responsible for the drop in overall deal value.
  • North Asia and Southeast Asia rounded the top 2 most active regions in terms of deals.
  • China has seen growth fall and encountered tightening domestic liquidity.
  • Low interest rates and a flat economy have made it tough for businesses in Japan to generate organic growth.
