Deal Drivers: Americas HY 2021

In partnership with Mergermarket, an Acuris company

Key M&A markets in the Americas saw record-breaking activity during late 2020, as dealmakers rebounded from the worst of the pandemic. Dealmaking in Q1 2021 continued to take advantage of the release of pent-up demand, with the renewal of transactions postponed due to the pandemic. Corporates and investors began devising their post-COVID-19 strategies, creating an influx of new M&A opportunities.

Deals worth US$765bn in aggregate were announced in Q2 2021 (up 16% from the preceding quarter), the antithesis of Q2 last year, when just US$83bn worth of deals were logged.

Though there is reason for optimism, dealmakers cannot allow themselves to become complacent. Economic recovery is uneven in parts of the Americas and we’ve not yet seen the last of COVID-19.
