Debt Ratio

Definition:

A generic term for the financial ratio that expresses a company’s debt as a proportion of a measure, such as debt compared to equity, debt compared to EBITDA or debt compared to assets.

As a means of illustrating the level of Gearing or leverage in a company, the Debt Ratio is a factor often used in determining the risk level of a particular investment.
