Stock Split

Definition:

An action by a company whereby its existing shares are divided into multiple shares. Although the number of shares outstanding increases, the total value of the shares remains the same compared to the pre-split amount. No real value has been added as a result of the Stock Split. It is often done for the purpose of reducing each share’s market price to a level thought to be more attractive to Retail Investors.
