Underwriting Fee

Definition:

The fee, which is deducted from the offering proceeds, that investment banks charge for underwriting an issue of securities. The Underwriting Discount is a percentage of the offering price for equity or of the principal amount of debt. Also known as an Underwriting Commission for the underwriters’ selling and marketing efforts.

Underwriting discounts vary widely between different jurisdictions.
